This year, the International Tournament "Open Cup of National Wushu Federation of Russia" has been held on the high level, as usually, and gathered the Wushu teams from 8 countries.

For the first time, the team from Kazakhstan joined the competition, - the one of Club of Martial Arts "Dao" that recently became an Accredited Participator of Wushu Association of Baltic and Nordic Countries.

Also, for the first time the judgement under the new IWUF rules (edition 2003) has been introduced on this tournament.

But the real excitement for all athletes and organizers was the participation of brilliant Shanghai Wushu team, including Xie Fu Yan, the actual 3rd place in China in nanquan and nangun.

Shanghai Wushu officials decided to come to St-Petersburg in July 2005, when the team of National Wushu Federation of Russia, senior coach Eleonora Volokontseva, completed the instruction course in Shanghai Wushu Institute.

"We have something to learn from Russian athletes", - said Mrs. Hong Chuan Fang, deputy director of Shanghai Wushu Institute, during her interview for 5th TV Channel. "It is their persistance in Wushu and their spirit. We are very surprised how fast the Russian guys make their progress in Wushu. We also can see here many youngsters, very promising. A lot of adults, for example the athletes from St-Petersburg team, really conform to Chinese standards in professional Wushu".

"It was quite complicate to organize the visit of the official Chinese team to Europe", - said Mrs. Eleonora Volokontseva, president of National Wushu Federation of Russia and the Chief Referee of the tournament. "However, we've made everything possible in order that our participants could look at the highest level of Wushu - the level of the elite Chinese athletes - and could be inspired for achieving their high aims in Wushu. Actually, the cooperation between our organizations gained the next level. It will help us with organizing even more perfect events and will help our Accredited Participators with their hard work of developing and promoting Wushu in their regions".
